The scheme is named after the great freedom fighter Swahid Kushal Konwar, symbolizing service, sacrifice, and selflessness.

Objective

To provide monthly financial assistance to elderly citizens of Assam who have no regular source of income and belong to economically weaker sections of society.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a permanent resident of Assam.
  • Age must be 60 years or above.
  • Should belong to a low-income group.
  • Should not be receiving any other pension from central or state schemes.

Benefits

Eligible beneficiaries receive a monthly pension amount, directly transferred to their bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) for transparency and efficiency.

2. Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS)

The Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) is a centrally sponsored scheme under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

Objective

To provide social assistance to senior citizens living below the poverty line (BPL), ensuring that no elderly person is left without financial support.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be 60 years or older.
  • Must belong to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) household.
  • Should not be receiving any other government pension.

Pension Amount

The pension amount is shared between the Central and State Governments:

  • For people aged 60–79 years: ₹200 per month (from Central Govt.) + State share.
  • For people aged 80 years and above: ₹500 per month (from Central Govt.) + State share.
